Powder Coated Busbars – How Manufacturing Details Define Reliability by HV Wooding
As the electric and hybrid vehicle industry accelerates, attention often falls on battery capacity, charging speeds, and energy efficiency. Yet within every pack and power distribution system lies a quiet workhorse; Powder coated busbar. These copper conductors provide the pathways for current flow between cells, modules, and electronic systems. To most engineers, busbars may seem straightforward, a length of copper shaped to fit, coated for insulation, bolted into place. In practice, however, their performance and reliability are defined not just by design, but by how they are manufactured. This is particularly true in niche sectors such as electric and hybrid marine systems, trucks, high-end vehicles, and supercars, where production volumes are lower but demands on quality, flexibility, and reliability are higher than ever. HV Wooding explains how this works in this article. Click on the URL link to read to complete article.

PREMO - New NFC Antennas for smartphones and mobile devices
PREMO has developed an innovative NFC product family (13.56MHz), very well suited for mobile devices like smartphones. These series cover not only single axis antennas (SDTR1103HF, ZC1003HF), but also 3D antennas with good performance regardless physical device orientation (3DC15HF, 2D1D). NFC technology employs electromagnetic induction between two loop antennas located in close proximity to each other, but mounted in two different devices with NFC functionality. Internet of Things As of 2014, the vision of the Internet of Things has evolved due to a convergence of multiple technologies, ranging from wireless communication to the Internet and from embedded systems to micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). This means that the traditional fields of embedded systems, wireless sensor networks, control systems, automation (including home and building automation), and others all contribute to enabling the Internet of Things (IoT). "Things," in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as wearable devices, heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters, automobiles with built-in sensors, or field operation devices that assist firefighters in search and rescue operations. These devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously flow the data between other devices. Current market examples include smart thermostat systems and washer/dryers that use Wi-Fi for remote monitoring, and/or BTLE (Bluetooth low energy interface, etc.). Besides the huge potential of new application areas for Internet connected automation to expand into, IoT is also expected to generate large amounts of data from diverse locations that is aggregated very quickly, thereby increasing the need to better index, store and process such data. NFC Antennas The NFC market is growing rapidly worldwide, due to expand of NFC smartphones and mobile devices. This technology offers the ultimate in security and allows implementing smart services like identification and access, authentication, e-payment, e-ticketing, filing sharing, etc. NFC technology employs electromagnetic induction between two loop antennas located in close proximity to each other, but mounted in two different devices with NFC functionality. PREMO Solutions PREMO NFC products can be used in applications with ISO15693 (vicinity: I-CODE), ISO 14443A&B (proximity: MIFARE) interface, ISO18092 and Felica. PREMO works closely with top NFC chipsets manufacturers and offers antennas designed to match these chipsets: NXP: MF-RC500, MF-RC530, MF-RC531, PN511, PN531, PN532 ¡, PN533, PN544, PN547. - AMS: AS3953; ST: M24LR16E-R - MELEXIS: MLX90121 - Texas Instruments: TRF7960, TRF7970A More information? RECOM 40W and 75W Railway DC/DCs are Fully Featured
RECOM has announced two new cost-efficient DC/DCs for the rail market with an ultra-wide 11:1 input range to cover all nominal input voltages from 24V to 110VDC, with 24V output and a 12V and 15V output version coming soon. Models RMD40-UW and RMD75-UW have trimmable outputs with reinforced isolation, rated at 40W (60W/10s boost) and 75W (90W/10s boost) respectively. The parts are offered as lightweight baseplate-cooled modules and thanks to their high conversion efficiency of better than 90%, they can operate at full power for OT4+ST1&ST2 classes from -40°C to +85°C with no additional cooling in any mounting position. A wealth of features are incorporated as standard, including EN50121-3-2 filtering and disturbance protection, input reverse polarity protection, inrush current limiting, remote on/off, power-good signal/contacts, output trim and internal OR-ing diode for paralleling/redundant operation. An active hold-up circuit provides ≥10ms ride-through across the whole input range. Comprehensive protection is included against short circuits, over-current, over-temperature and over-voltage. Along with comprehensive EN50155 certification and approvals for rail applications, these features make for easy ‘plug and play’ system integration with ‘fit and forget’ confidence from a high MTBF figure and 20 year design lifetime/useful life class L4. The RMD40-UW is presented in a compact 100 x 60 x 30mm package while the RMD75-UW is just 110 x 73 x 40mm. Connections are by block terminals or optionally by Cage Clamp terminals as suffix /PT and a DIN-rail mounting option is available for both versions. The units come with aluminum housing in IP20, the electronic part is conformally coated for OV2/PD2 environment and both families fulfill EN45545-2 – HL3 fire protection hazard level.

Rector of Ghent University Visits AnTARES
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Petra De Sutter, Herwig Reynaert and Hennie De Schepper from Ghent University at AnTARES. It was an opportunity to present our work, introduce the team and exchange ideas around our project. At AnTARES, we bring together Ghent University students, from bachelor to PhD, to design, build and launch high-power rockets. We aim to launch our rocket at EuRoC 2026 in Portugal. Today, around 30 students contribute to this multidisciplinary effort. A key aspect of our project is the development of a bio-based rocket, a unique approach in European student rocketry, especially at this scale and performance level. We are grateful for the visit and the support. Moments like these highlight the value of engagement between the university and student-led initiatives.

RFID and NFC antennas of Premo
In the last few years, Communication technology by Near Field Communications (NFC) has experienced a lot of improvements. PREMO enlarges its NFC product range with the new 3DC15-HF series, which is a combination of 3 single coils oriented in the 3 space axis. The new 3D coil from PREMO RFID offers the possibility of mounting a single component instead of three, thus reducing cost, saving PCB space and increasing the circuit reliability. Sensitivity, low profile and small size are the key of this RFID innovative component. Best choice for keyless entry systems the three tri-rectangular windings ensure optimum field sensing regardless position.
