Sensorless PMSM: the new standard in efficient motor control
The shift from BLDC to PMSM motors is in full swing. While BLDC has been the standard for years, sensorless Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) now offer clear advantages: higher efficiency, more torque, quieter operation and a more compact design. Eliminating mechanical position sensors also makes the system cheaper, more reliable and easier to integrate. Why choose sensorless PMSM? - Higher energy efficiency thanks to sinusoidal control; - Significantly reduced vibrations and noise; - No sensors: lower cost & higher reliability; - Higher power density in a smaller footprint; - Flexible, software defined motor tuning. In addition to PMSM, our platform technology also supports AC induction motors (ACIM) using V/Hz control — ideal for applications where existing motor architectures must be retained but still benefit from modern control and variable speed.

Practice case "Water softeners in the Cloud" - IoT
A manufacturer of water softeners wanted to be able to reach his appliances via the Cloud. This manufacturer supplies his equipment through dealers, some of which offer full service contracts. The link to the Cloud server provides the usage data that the service organization can control optimally. This manufacturer of water softeners also wanted to offer the end-users an APP to consult and/or modify the status of the device-which is often in the basement or garage-anywhere in the home. E.D.&A. has developed a new customized electronic controller for this customer with integrated Wifi module. The new control and communication print is mechanically compatible, so it fits perfectly into their existing devices. For the backend software this time we collaborated with a company selected by the customer, which is specialized in Cloud server applications. The communication between the control and the Cloud server is done through the IoT Rest protocol.

Integration gesture recognition on your application
We integrate innovative user interfaces for your electronics incl gesture recognition etc. Development and production of custom-made electronics for machines and appliaces. Also for your application!

Case: IoT application in an ATEX environment
E.D.&A. developed an energy-efficient wireless sensor for use in potentially explosive environments. The severe circumstances for applications in chemistry, petrochemicals and heavy industry required extra attention in development. The result is a sensor with IP69 gradation and a temperature range of -40°C to +70°C.0 Electrical applications in explosive atmospheres must comply with European ATEX standards. The sensors therefore carry the Ex logo as a sign of approval by an accredited laboratory. The customer's backend application makes the sensor information usable for the process operators so that relevant information is immediately available.

Case: Custom-made electronic controllers for chicken grills and ovens
E.D.&A. developed an electronic controller with an innovative operating interface for chicken grills and ovens for a world-renowned grill manufacturer. The operating interface is built around a graphical, capacitive 7” TFT screen for operation behind a glass plate. The design has a modern powerful ARM microprocessor running an industrial Real Time Operating System (RTOS). E.D.&A. was responsible for the complete hardware and software development. The electronic controller has a USB host port that makes it possible to read or to change new recipes, software, HACCP logging and parameters in a simple way. Optionally, the controller can also be equipped with a WiFi module - developed by E.D.&A. - so that IoT (Internet or Things) options can be integrated. In this way, the devices are connected to the cloud and recipes and software updates are uploaded over the internet.

Machine builder wants voice-controlled machines
Consumers are now increasingly using voice control, for example when operating home automation applications at home. E.D.&A. is therefore seeing the demand for voice control increase among its customers and their end users. In other words, this means the integration of smart speakers. We equipped our electronic controller with software to operate, in this case, a fan (on/off) and lighting (on/off, dim). An important point in this regard is the way in which our electronic controller tells the cloud what it supports and also how it is secured, so that nobody else can send commands to the electronic controller.

Custom-made electronic control platform for heat pumps
A leading manufacturer of sustainable indoor climate solutions (both for the new build and renovation market) approached us to develop and produce a new controller platform for their heat pumps. The aim was to develop a new control platform that could be used for both their air/water heat pumps and their water/water heat pumps. In close cooperation with this customer, E.D.&A. developed a single control board that can be used on their various devices based on controller variants. The controller board is based on a modern microprocessor platform and is equipped with analogue and digital inputs and outputs. It is the central unit that reads in and controls all functions of the heat pump (including compressor, fan, valves, thermostat, pumps, temperature sensors, etc). An Opentherm slave port was used to connect the thermostat. Combined with the user interface (developed by the customer), their devices can be set locally or via an App.

Explosion proof IoT module for pump systems (predictive maintenance)
E.D.&A. developed a battery/transmitter unit that is applied as a predictive maintenance sensor for pumps (in hazardous areas such as chemical plants or refineries). Via this ATEX certified module incl. housing, the vibrations, the sounds and the temperatures of the pumps are monitored and logged. This makes it possible, for example, to recognise early on that the bearings of the pumps need replacing and to schedule maintenance in time (predictive maintenance). In view of the strict ATEX standards, we had to take account during development of very strict requirements in terms of heat generation (strongly limited currents, inductances, capacities, possible spark formation, etc.), materials used, type of housing, type of batteries, etc. Upon delivery, we also provide a very detailed technical documentation package with the electronics.

Thermostat controller with MATTER
From smart lights, ventilation systems to thermostats, Matter makes sure they can all communicate with each other. At Advanced Engineering in Antwerp (15-16 Mai 2024), E.D.&A. will reveal a custom-made thermostat controller with Matter. By way of example, visitors can read and change the temperature of this Matter thermostat via the Google Home app (Google Nest Hub). 'Matter' is an open-source connectivity standard for smart home appliances and IoT (Internet of Things) devices. E.D.&A. implements for its customers -if desired- Matter on the electronic controllers of their smart home applications. The benefits are numerous.
