As a result of, among other things, the various climate measures, standards and regulations to limit emissions, there are more and more electrical solutions. This also in construction. Just look at the number of electric aerial work platforms. More than 50% has already been adapted and works electrically. However, the earth-moving machines, telehandlers and cranes are lagging behind enormously!
Elsto has a solution for this. Together with a battery pack, an Elsto three-phase motor runs via a frequency controller from Bonfiglioli Vectron.
The motor drives the hydraulic pump of the crane via a V-belt transmission. Traveling gear, slewing, boom retraction and extension, and the attachment (for example, a grapple) are still hydraulically driven. The lighting and controls are powered by the existing 12 V battery.
With the electric drive you have a constant torque and therefore a constant flow and pressure in the hydraulics. The valve block controls the speed of the travel and swing drives and the cylinders. An electric motor just keeps going under heavy load, with a diesel engine you can hear the speed drop.
Because the machine is fully electrically powered, it is emission-free. Moreover, the electrification also produces a surprisingly quiet crawler crane. Not the diesel engine but the hydraulic pump now produces the most (but less) decibels. The frequency converter and electric motor cannot be heard from the outside, while the motor and battery compartment are not even insulated. This facilitates consultation during work and creates more peace in the neighbourhood!
