The Einstein Telescope will detect extremely faint signals from gravitational waves. Environmental signals may interfere with the measurements. For this reason, a range of sensors is used to measure these influences. These include optical, seismic, inertial and environmental sensors. Information from these sensors is collected in an instrumentation network and then used in control systems to drive actuators, for example to provide vibration damping.
