Mockup Rocket Design

We combine sustainable materials, custom production methods, and full system integration in a practical and testable rocket design.

Our Mockup Rocket Design shows a structured approach to building a rocket airframe from research to production. The project brings together different teams and systems into one design, including structure, propulsion, avionics, and recovery.

A key innovation is the use of bio-based composite materials as an alternative to traditional carbon fiber. We test a partly bio-based polymer matrix with natural fibers such as flax. Different materials, weave patterns, and lay-ups are tested to find the best combination, despite a higher weight.

We design and build our own production tools, including a flexible wet layup station and a fin alignment system made with a 3D printer. These tools enable controlled and repeatable production of parts like tubes, fins, and the nosecone.

Our electrical and software teams develop the flight computer system. It collects, stores, and sends data, calculates the highest point using GPS, barometer, and accelerometer, and controls parachute deployment and payload release. The system includes LoRa communication, battery monitoring, health checks, and a ground station dashboard. A backup sensor board increases reliability.

Reliability is improved through redundancy, including two flight computers, redundant sensors, and multiple data storage systems.

Safety is considered during production, assembly, and flight preparation.

The mockup rocket is used to test the full system before a real flight, including assembly, internal components, and the recovery system with dual parachutes.
