Novel Surface Functionalities by Ultrashort Pulsed Laser Texturing

Praktische informatie

In order to add value to components surface functionalization plays a crucial role. Traditionally, this takes place by applying a coating, or changing the bulk material of a component. However, a third method, functionalizing a surface by structuring (or texturing) becomes more and more interesting due to the high performance obtained by these textures and the maturing of the technology to apply them. In this presentation, Sirris will explain the use of ultra short pulsed lasers to achieve advances surface functionalities such as water repellency, improved friction behavior, optical and thermal improvement.  Several relevant cases are shown, including the development of an “ultra black” surface texture which finds ample application in the aerospace sector, and is close to industrialization.
